| Private First Class Harry Glass, Jr., of Grand Rapids, Michigan, gets a drink of water at the lister bag. A lister bag (also spelled lyster bag) is a device used to disinfect drinking water. Behind him can be seen the FAF Press Hut, located in New Guinea (present day Papua New Guinea). Robert Doyle notes that Private Glass was a "former Democratic State Representative, National Committeeman of the Young Democrats and High School National Public Speaking Champion. | Robert Doyle was a civilian war correspondent for the Milwaukee Journal during World War II, covering the experiences of Wisconsin troops in the 32nd "Red Arrow" Division, an infantry division of the United States Army National Guard. The "Red Arrow" Division consisted mainly of soldiers from Wisconsin and Michigan. |
