Their names, left to right, are Fireman 1st Class Alex Georgeson (shirtless) of Portland, Oregon, Private George Goldstein of Youngstown, Ohio, Boatswains Mate 2nd Class Walter Barton of Los Angeles, California and Seaman 1st Class William Black (shirtless) of Durango, Colorado. The photograph was taken on Milne Bay, New Guinea (present day Papua New Guinea). |

| Robert Doyle was a civilian war correspondent for the Milwaukee Journal during World War II, covering the experiences of Wisconsin troops in the 32nd "Red Arrow" Division, an infantry division of the United States Army National Guard. The "Red Arrow" Division consisted mainly of soldiers from Wisconsin and Michigan. |
