Front Porch, Beekman Quarters
"Woodpile on porch. Dangerous steps and porch. Boards layed [sic] over mud for front walk. Two persons have one room each in their building. Ages 50 and 73. $7.00 per month rent each. They draw water across the street from an outdoor faucet shared by 5 families and 11 persons. The outhouse in back is shared by four older persons in separate households." Beekman Quarters housed 81 people in 23 buildings. None of the houses in the neighborhood had running water or gas/electric heating; the neighborhood had 15 outdoor toilets and 11 outdoor water hydrants. |
