Elderly Hero
Autographed carte-de-viste of John L. Burns, the elderly resident of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania who volunteered to fight with the Union Army during the battle. He fought as a sharpshooter with the 7th Wisconsin and other units of the Iron Brigade on July 1, 1863. Although wounded three times, Burns survived to become a national hero. He died in 1872. |
