Map of a Part of Sturgeon Bay and Lake Michigan Showing the Proposed Location of the Route for a Ship Canal

This 1872 map shows the proposed route of a canal between Sturgeon Bay, on the Green Bay side of the Door Peninsula, and Lake Michigan. Depths in both Sturgeon Bay and Lake Michigan are shown by soundings and isolines and based on surveys made in 1865 and 1866. A profile of Portage Road, just to the north of the proposed canal route, is shown. The title given in an inscription on the verso is "Plan & specifications and map of the Sturgeon Bay & Lake Michigan Ship Canal & Harbor Co. |
