Obey at Ground Zero
Florida Congressman Bill Young (left) and Wisconsin Congressman David R. Obey, respectively the Republican chair and the ranking Democrat of the House Appropriations Committee, at 9/11 Ground Zero only a few days after the attack. Obey and Young were present in conjunction with their role in authorizing emergency federal funds. Behind Obey is the World Trade Center 6 building (6 WTC) and on the left is the Verizon Building. Both were heavily damaged by the collapse of the twin towers. 6 WTC was razed; the Verizon Building, an architectural landmark, was restored. Behind the Verizon Building is the debris pile of the World Trade Center Building 7 (7 WTC) which collapsed during the afternoon of September 11 because of fire. The view here is looking east on Vesey Street. |
