D-X Service Station, 2620 Monroe Street
Schmelzer Brothers D-X service station, from 1951-1968, a mid-century modern service station at 2620 Monroe Street at the corner of Knickerbocker Street. A pedestal sign with a diamond shaped D-X logo on top and a rectangular sign with 'Boron' printed on it are at the corner of the lot. Another sign with 'D-X Boron' is positioned above the four gasoline pumps. In the left background is a one-story house. In the right background is a beauty salon. The ad copy implies 'Boron' was a chemical additive that boosted octane in the gasoline produced by the D-X Sunray Oil Company of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Owned by Tom Rice from 1968 to 2013 under the name Town & Country Auto Repair. |
