A Second Crop of Clover
The front (top) and back (bottom) of an advertisement for farm land in northern Wisconsin. This card advertises the abundance of clover crop with an image of farmers harvesting large amounts of clover. The caption below the image reads: "A second crop of Clover, Taylor County." The reverse side reads: "Why dose a farmer usually succeed? - Simply because he works for himself and in not obliged to share the profits of his labor with an employer. In him is combined both capital and labor, and there is never any trouble between them. Don't you want a piece of hardwood land right in your own state, adjoining good improved farms, and within your means to buy? If you desire to consider this question, write for free illustrated pamphlets, to Frederick Abbot, Land Commissioner, W. C. R. R. Milwaukee, Wis. |

Part of the promotional materials created by the Wisconsin Central Railroad Company Land Commissioner to publicize the sale of land in northern Wisconsin, primarily in Price, Taylor, and Ashland counties, owned by the railroad, circa 1895. One side of the card has illustrations of farming conditions, crops, forest resources, homesteads, small towns, and rural scenes in northern Wisconsin. A number of the illustrations are from photographs made by Harvey J. Perkins for "Northern Wisconsin: a hand-book for the homeseeker" and "Hand book of Price County." The reverse side of the card has text touting the abundance of resources available in northern Wisconsin, some of which was taken from "Northern Wisconsin: a hand-book for the homeseeker," edited by William A. Henry. |
