Replaceable Cylinder Liner
Diagram of a replaceable cylinder liner used in International trucks. The accompanying caption reads, "The important advantages of the dry sleeves, or liners, in the D-60, DR-60, and DR-70 engines include: greater crankcase rigidity due to additional metal, and increased bore life, due to the fact that the liners are scientifically hardened. This construction also permits easy replacement because liners are readily removed or inserted from the top of the engine. As the liners are inserted into conventional cylinder bores, an possibility of distortion due to heat is eliminated, and there is no sealing problem because no water comes in contact with the liners." |
