African American Workers at IHC McCormick Works
Group of employees, all men or young men, and mostly African American, posing inside manila or cotton processing room of IHC's McCormick Works. One man is holding a cart with a bale of cotton or manila, and two men are standing holding the chains of a large machine. The rest of the group is standing on the left and right. The McCormick Works was built by Cyrus McCormick in 1873 and became part of International Harvester in 1902. The factory was located at Blue Island and Western Avenues in the Chicago subdivision called "Canalport." It was closed in 1961. |
