Hans Christian Heg
Vignetted, head and shoulders cabinet card portrait of Hans Christian Heg, a colonel in the Wisconsin 15th Infantry. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Waterford, Wisconsin. On September 30, 1861, he was commissioned as the colonel of the 15th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment and was mustered into service on February 13, 1862, in Madison, Wisconsin at the age of 32. On May 1, 1863, he was detached to command 3rd Brigade of the 1st Division, 20th Corps, Army of the Cumberland. On September 19, 1863, he was mortally wounded in the abdomen at the Battle of Chickamauga. He died from the wounds received on September 20, 1863. |
