Christian E. Tanberg
Head and shoulders studio portrait of Christian E. Tanberg, a first lieutenant in Company D, 15th Wisconsin Infantry, in uniform. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20 and 7: He resided in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. On January 14, 1862, he commissioned as a second lieutenant and mustered into service on February 13, 1862, in Madison, Wisconsin at the age of 32. During the Battle of Stone River, Tennessee, he was captured and was held as a prisoner of war at Atlanta, Georgia until he was exchanged and reported for duty on April 24, 1863. On June 8, 1863, he received a commission as a first lieutenant. He was wounded in his left hand at the Battle of Chickamauga. On October 31, 1863, he resigned due to the injury received during the Battle of Chickamauga. |
