The play shows Charles H. Hoyt struggling to find the skillful weaving of plot and incidence of his later work: here, the characters are simply named as generic urban types. Written in 1887 for his first wife, the actress Flora Walsh, the play received excoriating reviews and quickly closed. It reopened at the Bijou in September 1889 but had only a short run. |
