Stephen O. Himoe
Waist-up seated studio portrait of Stephen O. Himoe, a surgeon in the 15th Wisconsin Infantry, in uniform. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Laurence, Kansas. On November 11, 1861, he was commissioned as a surgeon by the governor of Wisconsin and was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin at age 29. From February to May 1863, he was detached by order of General William Rosecrans to serve at the hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Starting on October 6, 1863, by order of Doctor Glover Perin, the medical director for the Department of the Cumberland, he was placed in charge of the hospital for the 1st Division, 20th Army Group at Chattanooga, Tennessee. Stephen O. Himoe resigned his commission on November 13, 1863, due to disability. |
