Henry Hauff
Quarter-length studio portrait of Henry Hauff, a captain in Company E, 15th Wisconsin Infantry, in uniform. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Stoughton, Wisconsin. On December 14, 1861, he was commissioned as first lieutenant of Company G, 15th Wisconsin Infantry by the governor of Wisconsin and was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin at age 25. Starting on May 3, 1863, he was serving as acting regiment adjutant until he was promoted to that position on October 14, 1862. On May 8, 1863, he was promoted to captain of Company E, 15th Wisconsin Infantry. From May to August 1863, he was serving as acting assistant adjutant general. He was killed on September 19, 1863, during the battle at Chickamauga, Georgia. |
