Cornelius E. Williams
Head and shoulders studio portrait of Cornelius E. Williams, a first lieutenant in Company H, 15th Wisconsin Infantry. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Cambridge, Wisconsin. On March 3, 1862, he enlisted and was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin at the age of 23. He was promoted to the rank of second lieutenant on June 10, 1862, at Island No. 10, Tennessee. In November 1862, he was detached from the company to command the Pioneer Corps until August 1864. While at Chattanooga, Tennessee in June 1863, he was further promoted to first lieutenant. From August 1864 until he was mustered out of service on February 13, 1865, he served as the assistant quarter master of the detachments at Chattanooga, Tennessee. |
