Quarter-length studio portrait of P.W. Chantland [as written on the photograph backing; also written and known as Peter W. Chantland on Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20, published rosters: Wisconsin Volunteers (1914) and Rosters of Wisconsin Volunteers, Volume 1 (1886)], a captain in Company F, 15th Wisconsin Infantry. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Primrose, Wisconsin. On November 01, 1861, he enlisted in Dane County, Wisconsin and on November 12, 1861, he was mustered into service at the age of 22. On enlisted he held the rank of first sergeant and in April 1863, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant at Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He resigned his commission and was mustered out of service do to disability in November 1861 at the headquarters of the Department of the Cumberland in Chattanooga, Tennessee. |
