Capt. Carl Gustavson
Quarter-length studio portrait of Carl Gustavson [as written on the photograph backing; also written and known as Charles Gustaveson on Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20, published rosters: Wisconsin Volunteers (1914) and Rosters of Wisconsin Volunteers, Volume 1 (1886)], a captain in Company F, 15th Wisconsin Infantry, in uniform. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Eaton, Wisconsin. On October 21, 1861, he enlisted in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and on December 25, 1861, he was commissioned a captain at the age of 38. He was wounded during the battle at Stone River, Tennessee on December 31, 1862. In September is captured at Chickamauga, Georgia and held at a prisoner of war camp in Richmond, Virginia until he escaped and came into Union lines at Atlanta, Georgia on September 1864. He was mustered out on January 14, 1865 since the term of service expired. |
