Three-quarter length seated portrait of Orvin Thompson, a private in Company I, 40th Wisconsin Infantry, wearing Grand Army of the Republic uniform and a sword at his side. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 45: He resided in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. On May 21, 1864, he enlisted in Madison, Wisconsin and on June 16, 1864, he was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin at the age of 18. He served his contracted 100 day term of service and was mustered out at Camp Randall in Madison, Wisconsin on September 16, 1864. |
