Albert A. Taft
Head and shoulders oval portrait of Albert A Tafte, listed in roster as Albert A. Nelson, a private in Company B, 15th Wisconsin Infantry. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Madison, Wisconsin. On October 12, 1861, he enlisted in Madison, Wisconsin and on November 16, 1861, he was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin at the age of 21. During the fighting at Stone River, Tennessee on December 31, 1861, he was would slightly and captured. In January 1861, he was paroled as a prisoner of war and sent to recover from his wounds in Nashville, Tennessee. Following his recovery, he was sent to a paroled prisoner of war camp in St. Louis, Missouri and then to Annapolis, Maryland. Eventually, he was allowed to return to his company into active service. On October 13, 1863, he was sent as a guard with a supply train to Stevenson, Alabama. He was mustered out of service with Company B on December 2, 1864, in Chattanooga Tennessee. |
