Johan Nilson Nysveen
Waist-up oval portrait of Johan Nilson Nysveen [as written on the photograph backing; also written as John Nilson on Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20 and published rosters: Rosters of Wisconsin Volunteers, Volume 1 (1886) and Wisconsin Volunteers: War of the Rebellion (1914)], a private in Company I, 15th Wisconsin Infantry. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Waupaca, Wisconsin. On October 30, 1861, he enlisted in Scandinavia, Wisconsin and December 20, 1861, he was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin at the age of 27. On August 27, 1863, he was absent on furlough in Waupaca County, Wisconsin. As of June 08, 1863, he was listed on the muster rolls as being absent in Eau Claire, Wisconsin without leave. On May 23, 1864, he was detached to serve in the Brigade Provost Guard. From June through August 1864, he served at the Brigade headquarters. He was mustered out of service with Company I on February 10, 1865 at Chattanooga, Tennessee. |
