Shaplen Arrives
Robert Shaplen, the tall man with the briefcase, being greeted at an airport in Southeast Asia. Shaplen, who was regarded as the dean of the American journalists who covered that part of the world, was especially known for the many foreign affairs stories from Vietnam that he wrote for "The New Yorker" magazine. Shaplen's papers are part of the archival collections of the Wisconsin Historical Society. |
