Willms Christmas Tree Stand
| A Christmas tree stand made by Gustav Willms (c. 1854-1917), a cigarmaker, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It is probably made of cigar boxes. Written on back: "Wishing you All a Happy New Year From Anna" and "Auntie Ann's (Betsy Trepte's aunt) Xmas tree stand--made by Gustav Willms her father (Betsy Trepte's grandfather) in about 1885. Owned by the Ralph Trepte family as of 1962/Puts the stand up every year." Anna Willms (b. 1881) was Gustav's daughter. She never married. Her sister Lydia's daughter Elizabeth (Law) Trepte wrote the note on the back. |
