Head and shoulders oval studio portrait of Stener E. Bilstad, a first sergeant in Company H, 15th Wisconsin Infantry, in uniform. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Christiana, Wisconsin and on October 21, 1861, he enlisted in Christiana, Wisconsin. He was mustered into service on February 13, 1862, in Madison, Wisconsin at the age of 33. On January 16, 1862, he was appointed to the rank of first sergeant. On February 13, 1865, he mustered out of service with Company H in Chattanooga, Tennessee. |
