The photograph was taken for an article called "Production; A Pictorial Report" appearing in the February-March 1959 issue of "Harvester World Magazine". The original typewritten caption reads, "Motor Trucks in Springfield. Nowhere in Harvester is the tempo of production more presto than in the company's Motor Truck Division. In Springfield, Ohio, where its lighter truck models originate, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, home of its heavy-duty trucks, and in Emeryville, California, where its huge West-coat jobs are assembled, no effort has been spared to turn out more units. The division led the employment upswing with 2,359 employees in three weeks. Faced with a towering order bank, low inventories and a strong market, the division quickly tacked an additional 15,000 motor trucks to its objective for 1959 - a 65-day strike notwithstanding." |
