Paul Johnson (left) and James Borden (right) racing down Gorham Street at Madison's (Wisconsin) 1940 soap box derby. They have just left the starting ramp. Thirteen year-old James beat twelve year-old Paul. James went on to compete at the national race, the All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio, the next month. |
