Gold Dust Twins

The Gold Dust Twins were a popular comedy-musical act that toured in the Midwest during the 1950s. The two men sang, danced, and performed banjo music, as well as boxing three rounds. George Moorhead served as the referee for this performance. The twins are not named in their promotional literature. The photograph was autographed for Ben Bergor, a Madison magician and theatrical agent, who was their exclusive agent at one time. The twins were named after the Gold Dust Twins, mascots for a dishwashing soap popular at the turn of the twentieth century. The phrase came to mean any two talented individuals who worked closely together, especially in sports. |
