Brando & Groppi
Actor Marlon Brando (center) and Father James Groppi of Milwaukee arrive at the Alexian Novitiate in Gresham. The building had been seized by members of the Menominee Warrior Society, and leaders of the American Movement (AIM) asked Brando, well known for his support of Native American rights, and Groppi to help in the negotiations. Groppi was a leader of the civil rights movement in Milwaukee during the 1960s. |
