Waist-up seated oval studio portrait of Gulleik Knudson [as written on the published Roster of Wisconsin Volunteers, Volume 1 and on the Regimental Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20, “Blue Books”; also written as Gulick Knudson on Regimental Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20, “Red Books”], a private in Company F, Wisconsin 15th Infantry in uniform, holding a musket against shoulder and bayonet sheathed on his side. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. On December 28, 1861, he enlisted in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin on December 29, 1861, at the age of 33. He participated in the bombardment of Island No. 10, Tennessee [February 28 to April 8, 1862], Battle of Perryville, Kentucky on October 8, 1862, and in a skirmish at Lancaster, Kentucky on October 14, 1862. He was transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps [Invalid Corps] on September 4, 1863, by order of Major General Alexander McCook. |
