John Johnson

Head and shoulders oval portrait of John Johnson, a private in Company D, 15th Wisconsin Infantry. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in the Town of East Troy, Wisconsin. On February 05, 1864, he enlisted at Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and was mustered into service at Madison, Wisconsin on February 17, 1864, at the age of 18. He joined Company D on May 24, 1865, at Strawberry Plains, Tennessee. He was wounded slightly in the fight arm at Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia and was sent to a general hospital on August 08, 1864. He was temporarily assigned to Company H, 15th Wisconsin Infantry and was then transferred to Company I, 13th Wisconsin Infantry on June 11, 1865. He was mustered out of service on May 24, 1865, at Madison, Wisconsin. |
