This may be James A. Gillespie, a resident of Delton (Sauk County) when he enlisted as a Sergeant 1st Class on February 21, 1865 in Company G, 49th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. He was promoted to Full Lieutenant 2nd Class on June 13, 1865. He was mustered out on November 8, 1865 in St Louis, Missouri as a Second Lieutenant. James Gillespie first served in the 6th Iowa Infantry; he enlisted on July 1, 1861; age 19; was discharged on January 12, 1862 at La Mine Bridge, Missouri. |
