Waist-up oval studio portrait of Anders G. Urness [as written on portrait backing; also written as Anders G. Urnces on the published Roster of Wisconsin Volunteers, Volume 1 and (“Red Books”) Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20; Anders G. Urnaes as on the ("Blue Books) Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20], a sergeant in Company B, 15th Wisconsin Infantry in uniform with sword sheathed on his side. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Black Earth, Wisconsin. On November 16, 1861, he enlisted and was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin on December 02, 1861, at the age of 24. He was wounded in the chest at the Battle of Chickamauga on September 19, 1863. In November 1863, he was absent from muster rolls for conducting recruiting service. In July 1863, he became the Regimental Color Bearer until he was mustered out with Company B on December 2, 1864, at Chattanooga, Tennessee. |
