The original typewritten caption reads: "No. 1472. Place: Hillsboro, Ala. Date: 2/6/15. Name A.C. Coult" and "A sample of muddy roads in Lawrence Country, near Hillsboro, on Feb. 6, 1915. The road was uniformly bad its entire width, one wheel going down into a deep rut while another would be climbing a mound of dirt.
