Henry Sporland
Full-length portrait of Henry Sporland, a private in Company A, 15th Wisconsin Infantry, wearing a double breasted suite and hat with the lettering of G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) on the crown. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Chicago, Illinois. On October 11, 1861, he enlisted and was eventually mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin on November 15, 1861, at the age of 29. The roster does not state that he received wounds, but from September 1862 to July 1864, he was absent-sick at Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was then transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps (V.R.C) [also known as the Invalid Corps] on August 15, 1864, by order of Major General George Henry Thomas. |
