Old and New School Buildings in Alabama
Alabama school buildings. A young boy stands on the steps of the new building. Original caption reads, "A comparison of old and new school buildings at Pleasant Hill, seven miles from Decatur. At the left is shown the original log school house, as the farther half of the building. It was 12 feet square and had three small windows and a door. Later the building was increased in size by adding a frame room on the end, with large windows. At right is shown the new building which has two recitation rooms and clothes closets on the first floor and the upstairs is for use of Odd Fellows Lodge and community meetings. Provision has been made for painting the building, the entire cost of construction being about $1300. The long table in front is for basket picnics, in connection with their community meetings and on Sunday when they hold service at the church near by." |
