Aerial View of Dane County Hospital

Aerial view of the Dane County Hospital, looking west. Excavating for a more modern east wing that was finished in 1960 can be seen near the main building. It had been called the Dane County Asylum for the Criminally Insane. In 1880 it became a part of the county hospital system, which was set up to provide longer term care to people who were discharged from the state hospital system. |

After completion, the hospital housed 430 residents. The facility was renamed the Badger Prairie Healthcare Center in 1985. As of October 2010, a brand new hospital at the same location was nearing completion. The remainder of the old building will be demolished. Photographs loaned for scanning by Mary Owens. |
