The original captions reads: "A dump truck on 167-in. wheelbase, the model M-51 vehicle is used by the Air Force near Wolters Air Force Base to take raw lime rock from the quarry, haul it to the crusher and then transport the processed aggregate to stockpile. Later the material is used in construction of roads and parking facilities on the base" and "On the following pages, the M-39 series of five-ton, 6 x 6 tactical vehicles is shown in actual operation through a series of color and black-and-white photographs. As the original design contractor, working in cooperation with the development engineers of the Detroit Arsenal, International Harvester developed and produced the first M-39 series units. As the principal producer under Army Ordnance contracts, International Harvester is continuing to redesign and effect engineering changes for improved functional operation of these vehicles. The vehicles are manufactured on the production lines at Fort Wayne Works under the same quality control system as the commercial models which have made International Harvester a recognized leader in the heavy-duty truck field." |
