Union Man Fishing in Secession Pond

Union Man Fishing in Secession Pond | Print | Wisconsin Historical Society
A man dressed in a blue jacket and light blue trousers fishes in a "SECESSION POND." He is sitting on the Union flag. His fishing line has a Union flag on it and the bait is a cannon. His creel (fishing basket) has the word "UNION" on it. He is saying, "THAT'S THE BAIT!" The sun and sun rays are just above the horizon in the background and the word "OUR UNION" is above it. On the shore is a snake labeled "SECESSION." It is lying on a tattered Confederate flag and is saying "OUT OF BREATH." Six fish in the pond are named with the Confederate states: Kentucky, VA, TEXAS, LA, SC and NC. A snake labeled "Maryland" lies on the shore.
