Star of the West
A gold star with the federal shield in the center has two Union flags behind it. The verse below reads, There's a Star in the skies that shall never go down, Till the records of valor decay, We must steer by its light, for its beams are our own, And 't is Freedom that burns in its ray. Shall the name or our WASHINGTON ever be heard, By a freeman and thrill not his breast? Is there one out of bondage that hails not the word, With a prayer for the Star of the West?" Blue, red and gold ink on cream envelope, image on left side. Image printed on envelope, mounted on various colored pages and collected in an album. |
