The War for the Union, New York City
A white sailor and a Native American man are sitting on the ground near the water, with ships in the distance. The colonist is holding a sextant in his left hand. The Native American man is wearing traditional clothing, with a feathered headband and an armband, and is holding an ax in his right hand. Between the two men is the seal of New York City, noticeable because of the beaver, flour barrel and windmill blades. In the left background a man is standing in a boat holding a spear. A circle filled with stars surrounds the figures, and a banner reads: "Seal of New York City." Union flags and a shield with stars and stripes decorate the border around the illustration. The text: "THE WAR FOR THE UNION" is on the right. The background is filled with thin blue horizontal lines. Blue ink on beige envelope. Printed illustration covers entire envelope, and is mounted on a decorative border and collected in an album. |
