Wallace Bruce, former U.S. Consul to Edinburgh, Scotland, was an author, poet, and well-known Chautauqua lecturer. The photograph was taken in Alpine Park at the McAlpine spring he named for his mother, Mrs. Mary Ann McAlpine. The park was owned by him, and located just off the grounds of the Florida Chautauqua in DeFuniak Springs. He was also president of the Florida Chautauqua, responsible for the statue of president Lincoln that stands in the old Carlton Burying Grounds, in Edinburgh, Scotland. |
