The original typewritten caption reads: "Use as contrast with 1478. J.H. Gilchrist of Courtland shows his grand daughter Lelia Sykes, height of cotton stalks on his farm, where eight acres produced 11 bales of cotton, season of 1914. The land was in pasture for two years previous and was in good condition by plowing and double disking in the spring. Winter oats were sown broadcast in the field when crop was laid by and furnished lots of feed for pigs and chickens during the winter."
