Madison Art Association Exhibit — "American Open House"
Mrs. Raymond J. (Dorothy G.) Koltes, president of the Madison Art Association, in front of a portrait of John Quincy Adams, painted about 1790 by Charles Willson Peale. The painting is one of 14 famous paintings on display in the Madison Art Association exhibit titled "American Open House — 200 Years of Art in Its Time." The portrait of Adams is in the display titled "A New Nation" and is shown displayed over a mahogany Sheraton chest which is a part of the exhibit. The displays are set up as 10 periods tracing art and life in America. Each of 14 famous paintings is installed as the central piece in an arrangement of furniture, fabrics, utensils, and costumes designed to place it within its period in American life. |
