Madison Art Association Exhibit — "American Open House"
Richard Houghton, left, and Charles Haycock, assistant curators of exhibits at the Wisconsin Historical Museum, working on a descriptive background panel for the "Abstract Present" display of the Madison Art Association exhibit titled "American Open House — 200 Years of Art in Its Time." The displays are set up as 10 periods tracing art and life in America. Each of 14 famous paintings is installed as the central piece in an arrangement of furniture, fabrics, utensils, and costumes designed to place it within its period in American life. The Wisconsin Historical Museum prepared the descriptive background panels and furnished many of the pieces for the displays. |
