Workers' Unity House
View down driveway toward the house. The dirt path diverges on both sides of the house, leaving a grassy area that includes flowers, a fountain, trees, and a lawn ornament in the shape of a deer. In the right foreground shrubs line the road, and the top of a light post is visible. To the left are trees, with a "No Parking Allowed" sign posted on a large tree near the center of the view. |

The marker for the building reads: "A vacation and labor education retreat was operated here, 1919-1989, by the International Ladies" Garment Workers" Union (ILGWU). Each year it hosted several thousand visitors—including union members, retirees, and public officials—and offered cultural events significant to the labor movement. The only workers" resort of its size in the U.S., it closed due to declining employment in the domestic apparel industry." |
