Nathan B. Forrest

Vignetted carte-de-visite portrait of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest. At the start of the war Forrest enlisted as a private but was quickly promoted to colonel because of his social status. In 1864 he was given an independent command and promoted to general. Following the conclusion of the war, Forrest went on to become a member of the Ku Klux Klan. |
