Twenty Mule Team Hauling Borax

Between 1883 and 1889, the twenty mule teams, such as this one, hauled more than 20 million pounds of borax out of Death Valley. The borax load was hauled 165 miles up and out of Death Valley to the nearest railroad junction at Mojave. Caption reads: "20 Mule Borax Team, Mojave, Cal. Valley Line." |
