"Tractorette" Operating Farmall H Tractor
Mrs. Elizabeth Lancton cultivating with a Farmall H tractor on the 105 acre farm of Cliff Lee. Mrs. Lancton attended classes offered by Fred R. Walkley, proprietor of the Walkley Farm Equipment Co., who conducted Tractorette schools at his stores in Castile and Perry, New York. The company announced the "Tractorette" program in 1942. It was intended to address the farm labor shortage created by U.S. war mobilization. The plan called for local dealers to offer free training for thousands of farm women and girls in the operation of tractors and other farm machinery. |
