St Louis City Directories show F.W. Guerin at the Washington Ave address between 1883-1892. A search on Ancestry.com found the name Leocadi only post-1900 for people born in Italy. But Leocadia is the name of a Spanish saint. In the 1900 Census there's a Mary Leocadia in St. Louis at 1406 S Tenth St, age 38, born Nov 1861 in NY, both parents born Ireland; she's single, a cook, living with school teachers. In the 1899-1900 St. Louis City Directory, St. Vincent de Paul Parochial School for Girls is at that address, next door to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church at 1408 S Tenth St. The teachers are all single, named Mary plus a saint's name, indicating that they are nuns. But this woman is not wearing a habit, so she may not be the same person in the census. |
