Original caption reads: "International U-2 power unit shown powering a sand sifter construction by the Jewett Sand Company of Jonesville, NY. The equipment is shown operating at the Saratoga Race Track. In ths operation it is necessary that the sand be sifted to a talc-like consistency to provide a firm, yet yielding surface for the thoroughbreds." The handwritten word "kill" appears on the upper left portion of photograph. International Harvester employees sometimes wrote or stamped the word on prints that the company considered to be "obsolete." |
